A Quick Accurate Test For Lead
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:47:17 AM »

               Test for Lead
   (1) use .2 grams of powedered mineral
   (2) place powedered mineral in an evaporaring dish
   (3) add 3 drops of Nitric Acid
   (4) let it set for 5 minutes or longer
   (5) add 3 cc of cold distilled water
   (6) add a few small crystals of Potassium Iodide

Results:  A dark yellow precipitate if much Lead is present.
Do not mistake a yellow solution for a precipitate.
Try this test on Galena ore.
If a white curly precipitate appears, test for silver.

Potassium Iodide is not an expensive chemical and it is used
in several other tests I will put up later.

Nitric Acid is very potent stuff, use in a very vented area out doors
where the fumes will blow away from you, use a fan if need be,
anything to keep them away from you. Keep all other persons
and / or pets away while using it also. You can sometimes but
it in 250 Ml or 500 Ml bottles if you hunt for it. You will also need
some Hydrochloric Acid for some of the later tests I will post so
you might as well shop for both at the same time.
