I saw his videos a while back.  He is missing the mark a bit.  Not many waterways will have the flow to create a strong enough vortex.  You also need something cone, bowl or conical shaped and a smooth bottom surface.

Look at his video.  Fast forward to 3:50...

He says correctly that the gold will be dead center in the bottom.  With a cone shape at the bottom it can easily be seen.  You can try it out in a small glass jar.  Take your concentrates and screen them down to -20 mesh.  Dump some in the glass jar and create a vortex.  The sands will pile up in the center of the jar with the highest specific gravity materials (gold) will be dead center on the bottom.

NickMarch- Where did you get the vortex sluice picture? Is this yours or a prototype from a website? This would be a great device made out of  plastic!-Leadshot

That was from a website that makes waste water treatment equipment.  4 vortex's is a bit much for gold prospecting.  Even one vortex would require the water to be pumped.  I doubt that many waterways would have enough flow to create a strong enough vortex.  It does look awfull good though!

It would be fairly easy to make with a deer feeder funnel.  You could also use the feeder funnels to make a 55 gallon blue bowl!

Based on the drawing and with experience with sluices in the river- I believe the funnel vortexes would work at a 4-6 inch in diameter. If the material was pre-classified at 1/4 inch. The lower exits of the funnel separators could merge into a common flow to be further classified or collected.
