If I were a Mennonite, is it cheaper?, can't see the difference?
If you were a Mennonite and esp a La Crete Mennonite, you probably would not be
a member of this forum!
There are cultural sensitivities when having business dealings with the Mennonites.
They are usually very fussy about who they do business with. The La Crete area Mennonites
are the last of the Old Colony Mennonites who homesteaded up to about 1960 in the
northern Peace River area. The numbers there compared to other colonies are huge - 5,000.
They all speak German, are Anabaptists or pacifists and and abhor violence of any kind.
They moved to the La Crete district to have control of their own lives, education and
remove themselves from unwanted "outside" influences, things most of us also want but
unfortunately have abdicated to the state - let the state buy us and provide for our every want.
So dropping Mennonite means Watch your language, attitude, the possibility to be refused
a business deal, deal in cash and no funny paper. I have a local friend who supplies some AB
Mennonite colonies with specialised items for manufacturing their own leather items like
shoes, boots, harnesses, saddles, etc. and it took him years to gain their confidence. Now
Borscht, Kartoffelsalat and Kuchen everywhere he goes.
