Prospecting in Ontario exploration?
« on: March 11, 2011, 06:53:11 AM »
Hi Guys,

I have just applied for me prospecting license, i have a few questions about prospecting & exploration.

I have also know that it has to be unclaimed Crown land for questions below.

#1 Am I able to dig and then start panning for gold on Crown land up north in the in Ontario?
#2 do I need a prospect permit to look for placer gold near rivers & creeks in Ontario?
#3 can I put up a tent on crown land or do i need a permit?
#4 can I take home mineral rich sand gravel for testing ect..?
#5 do i have to Stake a claim before i can do anything on the land?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

rules are a little diffrent up north, you can prospect on patented land so long as you have permission from the surface rights holder.you don't need to stake in order to sample any where in ontario.you can camp on crown land no pemits nessasary so long as its not posted.you can read most of this in the mining act and check "claimaps"for availibilty of sites.ie can't prospect in parks or reserve lands.

you don't need the prospectors lisence unless your going to claim, you can sample all you want.you'll have to check to make sure it's not park or indian reserve.there are limits on how much you can take(as much as you can carry per site per year)as a hobby panner.if you are above the french river you can sample on private land with permission from the surface rights holder and claim.

Good to know, now on claiming a stake, Do have to pay someone to do an assessment on the claim for minerals?? also I read somewhere that had to spend around $400 in Assessment Work Required on the claim before i was the claim owner?

I am going to be staking a Claim, i have been reading alot online but i need it in laymen terms lol

Also what is this Work Required & Total Reserve? & Total work about? $6000 is alot!!!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL THE GOOD INFO!!!!!

when you stake a claim you must do work on it(assays, line cutting, sampeling ect)you get work credits for work performed.you have to fill out work forms and submit reciepts(drilling, travel, assayers ect)if you have done more work than is required you can bank it for the next period.after you lease the mineral rights i think you just have to pay the yearly lease(3 dollars/hectar).
