Hi All. I was wondering if Mercury is still in common use for recovering flour gold ? If you are using it, how do you recover it ? In the old days I read that they forced it though a chamois. After that they burned off the Mercury  <~ShOcK~> What's that old saying "What don't make you stronger will kill you " Something like that.  What do you Guy's and Gal's do ? [<-panning->]  Jack

Not the last time the question is going to come up Black Lab. And if its about mercury. Good!!
Even the seasoned prospector should invest in a concentrator of some kind. Over using mercury. Also there is other ways to amalgamate gold. And are not so dangerous.
Mercury is not a friend or ally to the prospector. Or anything living.
To easy to just buy some too. And that is not a good thing.
It is another of the prime example of playing with something no one fully understands the effects of yet. because the first used is still out there somewhere effecting and infecting.  And will be for the rest of the time, of the earth being able to sustain life.
Also, even after it has left the body. What kinds of cancerous effects douse it leave behind? I do not know. But can see it in the fish and plants any time I want to go look. And actually see it there. Because I chews to.
In 2020. No fish in Washington will be good to eat from mercury. And are already suggested to be eaten in small amounts.  With not many listening.
Chuck.
