Both large and small scale.
and the companies both went under...
the trommels looked high tech using three wheels between the barrels at each end like a planetary gear system
so the barrels turned in different directions.
the machines looked real cool...But it is more cost effective to install the different size screens on one barrel!

Been looking for more information on reverse helix trommels.  Is there a gap requirement between the screen and the spiral?  Would the length of the trommel make it more like the spiral concentrator?

Curious minds wan't to know.

I am most curious in finding , building or retrofitting a trommel for a saprolite overburden containing placer gold and auiferous pyrite located above a hard rock vein. I have to move at least 100 feet in depth to get to the vein and feel that the overburden can be profitable if a good recovery rate can be achieved. I have not worked with trommels and am curious about a reverse helix.
Question: Does the reverse helix give the material more time in the trommel for a better wash ??  If not, what is it's purpose

Help: What is the best way to separate minerals from thick and heavy red clay (Saprolite). Additionally, I am talking an area about 300 feet by 500 feet and 75 to 125 feet deep.
