Hi there! I just joined, and have been browsing the site. There are a lot of things here that I'm sure will be EXTREMELY helpful.

Anyhow, I took a lesson on gold panning about a week ago, and I'm hooked. I want to go out gold panning, but I don't know where to find any sorts of deposits near Cranbrook, BC. I know they're around here somewhere, I just need suggestions for more specific areas. I have a truck and I'm full of blind ambition, so I'm willing to drive up mountains and hike to get to more remote areas with a higher yield.

I only have a pan and a shovel, but darnit, I've got heart.

Anyone want to give a tip to this spunky prospector?

Thanks for the help and welcomes you guys! Especially Oscar's link to recreational panning areas! I stumbled upon that when I was doing some research for an expidition. I was just wondering if there are some slightly more remote areas that haven't been panned out by others yet. In any case, I'm sure I will enjoy myself!

There are many people from the Cranbrook area on the forums here, that can help you find a spot. One spot I like is Fisherville on the Wildhorse river.

I'm actually from the Calgary area but all the good areas for panning are in BC .The next time I go out I will go to Ft. Steele.I have never panned there and want to give it a try.I've been to Perry Creek but came up empty handed Sad

If you are in the Fort Steel or Cranbrook area you might want to try the Nip and Tuck mine.  I'm not one for usually promoting anything, or anyone, but I found Steve at Nip and Tuck to be quite knowledgeable.  For $25 per person you can pan, sluice, or use your own equipment, and Steve will show you the ropes on how to placer mine.  Plus you keep everything you find.  Good place for a newbie to pickup some experience and first hand knowledge.

The next time I'm in the area I'm going to take my high banker there and tune it up (so to speak).  Should save me a bit of frustration when I'm out in the field.
