Besides "rock on lawn chair"
Quartz mixed in with very chalky orange that rubs off very easily. If nothing else I could go back to the 60's and tie dye my blue jeans. Smiley

Glossy substance mixed in making it somewhat intriguing.

Any ideas?

The orange material is a type of iron oxide, no? The pockmarked surface probably was pyrite that has been oxidized.

I am with aumbre looks like limonite or other iron oxide of that nature. Break the rock open and get below that oxide layer and you may find what is breaking down to make it.

Greywolf, good one. I was wondering who and when someone may have a oneliner for my sample question. Grin

I did already break this rock when I first picked it up and the glossy is what was at the fracture line. There does seem to be pockets of some silvery looking material, but it doesn't show up very well in the pictures I took.
Thanks for the responses.
