How many venture to check the gravels of an outside bend?
Sure do, but then it's always your call depending on the situation. What I'm trying to say is use your head and look around, could the stream/river have changed in the past...hundred/thousand or more years? How about the outside bend laying under a nice bench...wouldn't you check it? Better... Maybe a slide area above too? How about downstream from this "outside bend" do you have color in the pan/box that is rough? Again, better go back up to that outside bend and do a little more checking.
I've found good gold in outside bends for various reasons, and a couple of them not explained by reasoning either...
