Blue Bowl (Concentrator) Plans
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:10:40 PM »
Im hoping to Build my own Blue Bowl but i want to make sure i do it right.
Would anybody be so kind as to provide me with some kind of step by step instructions?

Also, If i decide to use a water hose instead of a pump, what can i do to prevent the bucket/tub from overflowing?

Can i use a electric fuel pump from a automobile?

Personally, I would spend my money on something worthwhile, those blue bowls are fininky pieces of over priced plastic, and will drive ya nuts trying to use it.........Guest

Anyone still have the plans to make a Blue Bowl at home....seeing as how the site was attacked and all that good information on how to DIY is now gone  <-NO_> If anyone still has a copy of said plans I would really like to have a look over them so I can build my own...or modify something that'll do just the same.
Even the dimensions would be nice if anyone knew what they were; can't seem to find them anywhere lol
Good luck hunting everybody.
Oh yeah one more thing (probably not the right place to post this so I apologize in advance as I am still new to the forum) but I am wondering about working a clay deposit.
I was walking in the lower mainland recently and while going through the woods heard that familiar sound of a creek nearby. Being the prospector that I am I wandered over to take a look, tested some of the soil (by test I mean a handful hear and a handful there lol no pan on my person unfortunately lolol) and it was very tough clay, so very thick. A couple of little streams fed into it which also had clay beds running in them, also very tough. It looked as though there was a substantial amount of black sand in it when I broke it up but it seems like it would be quite the challenge to actually pan it as it didn't really have many rocks or pebbles in it, and when it did it was little quartz and other stones that I couldn't identify at the time.
Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks again and happy new year everybody, may the nuggets be large and plentiful.

They're actually not that bad once you get the hang of them...
Once you know your water levels and such. Still a very slow process...
I should have gotten a miller table instead . Ah well, live and learn.

I just uploaded, to the image gallery, a scan of an article I wrote in 1993 on a concentrating bowl I made from an angel food cake pan.

the principal of a blue bowl is sound and i like the concept but i agree with greywolf, they are finicky, and not efficientalthough i think if a person wanted to take the time to set one up for washing clay material that was broken up they might work for making concentrate.
