Lots of good advice.  <-good_>

Yes you have to be prepare for the big problems that might happen. But it's the little things that can sometimes bring you down and ruin your fun.

Carry a good first aid supply and always disinfect your  wounds.Even the small ones.  Once you break open your skin barrier you are open to infections. Carry some water purification tabs too. Don't drink straight from the crick.

Boy Scouts moto. Be prepared. Be well and have fun too.  <-yes_>
Went to the old school of Hard Knocks... Pain is a good teacher. Becareful out there ya'all. :0)

I would not go with someone I do not no . but I would go with no insurance because I have lived in the bush up north . You must plane well but don't go with a stranger that is crazy.

I do not have choice about insurance , it is too risky  not to
I'm going to roll on my engine 15.000km  or so  a lot of things may go wrong
I'm not going by myself ,taking some trustful friends with me
This trip is not for single  guy . :)

your first post is looking for someone interested in going?

way i read it , he wants more vehicles to join up and travel together...

he can have a few friends in the passenger seats of his vehicle , but they're still all just 1, anything goes wrong all in the same boat....

He wants to form a  "convoy" ..multiple vehicles travelling together in a line on the highways/ bush back roads.Everyone in the group keeps an eye out for each other.
Example : if one vehicle gets stuck in a muck hole ,if you're travelling alone ,you might be screwed...but if you got 2-3-4 other vehicles with ya in a "convoy", they can haul ya out .(get ya unstuck)

I spent 3 summers working as  a geology field assistant collecting rock and soil samples in northern BC and the Yukon during university. Many places below tree-line were so bad for bugs that I had to wear a bug net over my face, and with a hat to keep it away from your skin so their beaks couldn't pierce the fabric. No matter the temperature I had to be covered from head to toe in multiple layers. Rainy days were the worst as you get hot, damp and very uncomfortable.

Anyone who has experienced dozens to hundreds of mosquitoes, blackflies, deerflies, horseflies and others buzzing all around you, climbing into your sleeves and below your belt line to bite you knows what I mean.

It's literally intolerable - I don't care how good the ground is gold-wise.

I'd rather have average gold and no bugs than great gold and intolerable bugs.

If you want to metal detect for real get to know some locals in Nevada or Arizona or California and head down there for some fair weather detecting. I'd take desert heat over Yukon bugs any day!
