Lots of lurkers and non-posters I guess McBain.

You wonder if they are actually out there prospecting for gold, learning, making mistakes and improving.

If not - what would be the point of going on to a forum like this?

Hey Mark, I was wondering the same thing, I always scroll to the bottom of the topics to see who the newest member is and check out where they are from.

They never seem to introduce themselves. If any of you newbies are reading this don't be shy, the only way you are going to learn or meet others that have the same interest is to introduce yourself and express your interests whether it is gold panning, metal detecting, hard rock mining, rock hounding etc. There are no stupid questions, the members on this Forum are willing to help you.

Remember you have to make 2 Posts then you can search all the topics and send Private Messages (PM's) to fellow members.

I read this site for a long time before I ever posted anything, I think it's easy to feel like a question you have is dumb. I just type my questions into google without having to witness strong opinions and egos on message boards, it gets tiresome. Lets face it, some of these topics on ALL message boards and comments sections get long winded & off topic...some people don't want to deal with that when they ask a simple question.

People would do better just to ask to spend a few hours with Mark, they'll learn a lot more doing that.  Oh, and to each their own.

I have to disagree Placer.... I enjoy the opions whether long winded or not.... even if I disagree with some of them... I think it's the whole point of having a forum like this. I think everyone has something to contribute... newb or veteran

Also, having been here for a long while, I enjoy watching newbie's posts mature as they get more experience.  We all learn from each other.

I donít post as I am in the learning phase and am in a location where little to no gold is found.  I need to drive 4hrs to get into Pennsylvania to find a little color, which I do, but only as time and schedule allows.
Itís on a bucket list to come up to Alask/BC to work with someone on their claim as  A helper or an apprentice. Not so much to learn hard-core heavy duty mining but to learn general prospecting panning sluicing dredging on a smaller scale. Then again itís finding the time to take off make the trip and stay there on site long enough to make it worthwhile.  Not really looking to make wages in gold but more so just to watch an operation where someone is actually finding gold and watch the, and be a part of, the entire collection and processing of such. More later.
