Adds in the forum?

I am also wondering why adds are being posted in the forum sites?

Look at the top of the page. The site admins signed up for Adsense and this is what it does. I have had a few sites in the past and tried Adsense on one and the annoyance to my users outweighed the pennies they pay per page impression. Unless Google has done a complete turnaround on payment policies then the admins may drop it in the future deciding that it is not worth the headache that it causes people on the site.

OK, lets talk about this problem you have discovered here.

When I go to that thread of Lanny's I do not see those advertisements.  Zero, Not a One, Not the First Glimpse, Not Any Inserted Ads.  All I see are the regular postings.  All I see on ALL the other threads ( because I read each and every new one of them multiple times a day AND late into the night ) are the regular postings with no unauthorized advertisements of any sort in them.  The only "Ads" I see are from Forum Patrons.

I received a PM about the newly appearing ads the other day and mistakenly thought that since I couldn't see them then it must be something more complex than I was used to.  So what I did was that I tried to figure out EXACTLY what folks were seeing (remember, I was blind to them).

No one used the Big ORANGE and White "REPORT" Button/feature which is certainly obvious to everyone, every time you read any post here.   Nobody reported the problem using the  "Report" feature, but rather just posted away about how much the advertisements bothered them.

Well, I've actually had some help now with a few folks actually taking a moment to contact me and describe what they were seeing.

I believe I mentioned that I can't see them at all, remember?  ----- So lets all take a moment to let that sink in.  For a month no body reported the problem, nobody (with one exception) PM'd me before I asked for them.

Now, I have now found out that they aren't confined to just a single member's posts in a string - but - are they on any other strings?  Any other of the sub-forums?  From those which were re-posted I can see those advertisements - so what should I do?

For those who think that "Admin" is out for the big bucks from advertising I would say you are so, so wrong.

For those who think that "Admin" has some deal with Ad Sense going on - well - "Admin" has as much to do with Ad Sense as you do, and that would be no dealings at all.   Does "Admin" determine where those Ad Sense ads show up --- Nope, we hate them also.

Now, one question - how many of you who DO see the ads have an AdBlocker installed?  I do - but do you?

For those who actually are trying to help with this problem - thank you, because you are part of the solution.

I started noticing the ads about 10 days ago. The two changes that are obvious is the AdChoice bar across the top of the main page and all images now post as attachments instead of inline so they don't interfere with the ads autoposted by Adsense.  Look at my "FrankenSluice" posting and My "Classifier" posting if you would like to see the difference that I see from 10 days ago.

The way that I bumped into this when I was running a few sites was a simple click on a button in the admin panel that triggered Adsense to run on my web site until I forced the provider (Blue Host) to either remove it or close my accounts. It took them two days to remove the startup code and it never came back after a server reboot. I don't think anyone thinks you are getting rich on this. Google is well known for trampling on peoples rights and paying a few pennies every time they do.

Hello,so i noticed the ads as well. They are still active on my phone browser.Apple product. But on my laptop no adsense ads.Don't know if this helps.I too think it may have something to do with your safety net Norton Bitdefender or such program.Running one on one device and not on the other might be letting these ads thru.Where the anti virus program like an AVG or something like mentioned above might block the ads.Whatever the case this is something new i agree as with both devices this never showed before.Hope this is of some use.

I guess my software must have stopped me from seeing any ads, never did.

All the best,

Lanny

I loaded up Adblock Plus (free ware) and it made the problem completely go away if people are still being bothered by Adchoice

AdBlock Plus advertises, "SURF THE WEB WITH NO ANNOYING ADS" yet it appears some companies pay adblock to display their ads.  <-sealed_> <-thinking-> <-hypnotized-> <~ShOcK~> ^#! <-d'oh-> <-thinking->    <-dont~know->
