Anchient channel?
« on: September 07, 2018, 02:37:25 PM »
Guys .... on my claim I have noticed a void in the area of the red line. There is lots of tree roots and a bit of overburden in the area but below the topsoil there is gravel. Possible anchient channel in that spot where the river may have carved straight through rather then bending where it does now? Thoughts?

I'd rather test than guess. Sample as appropriate to test your hypothesis. nerd$#@

Hi.It is a very narrow part of the valley.Chances are the channel has moved many times over the years.I would not think twice about digging a pit out on the flat where you camp.Get down 2-3 ft and test.worst you have to do is fill the hole back in.Luck Mcbain.
I started out with nothing Istill have most of it.

The possibility is there.
But..... in order to proof, you will have to do some ground- observation.
A plus point is if there is any depression . If it is a wet one that will be another plus one.
If there are nice piled stones on the side of the depression that would be a minus .
Then  it was possible mined before.
But ... the best and ultimate result is a test hole.
Go for it and then you can sleep better.
You donít want to wake up with 80 years on the back and then look at the picture above  thinking  that could be a channel.
Sample and you will know.

Cheers
