Hey all.

Up doing some wheeling and some adventuring.  Found a old pit site and found this stuff inside an old burned out big steel barrel.

Looks like someone melting rocks or something,  sorry for my ignorance.

(and I know its not gold and silver..lol)

Trying to attach a photo,  will see if I can figure this out.

Probably (well, maybe it could be) an old trash burning barrel with melted Aluminum ("Silver") and Brass ("Gold") left over from old fires.   I have even seen barrels used for general heating "Quick Warm-Ups" in the cold weather that would use scrap wood for fuel.  Great place to get rid of plastic, cardboard, paper, scrap lumber pieces and garbage while burning out food cans to discourage bears, mice, etc.  Could be a camping or construction camp burn barrel, depending on location.

And yes, the "Gold" might just be left over brazing brass from some small project in camp.

Somewhere I have a huge (yet very light) "Platinum Nugget" - 1/2 the size of a fist made of old melted Aluminum beer cans.  A lot of effort went into that!   <-party->   <-party->   <-party->

This was surely  an intentional melting setup more so than a trash burning area (haha),  it had a natural gas or propane line run to it,  it was a60" Tall x 96" Long Barrel made of like 3/8" thick plate,  Buried on its side and surrounded by intentionally placed boulders and sand. (might have been sandbags at one point but so eroded hard to say)

Temperature was so hot that the roof of it was deflected about 24" upwards.

Also the spot where something was burned was very small,  maybe 1' diameter area within that vessel.  My brother took a pic of the actual vessel, I will upload it.

The pit still had the remains of old classification of rock,  down to some piles of old sand.  I would guess it was a gravel pit or quarry.  Long un-used however as it was overgrown.

Fair enough...

You can see left over pieces of rock in the melted stuff,   anyhow it was a good 4x4 trip.

I brought home 6 buckets of material to work from home from various locations and for the first time I got to use the lockers on my jeep...  So other than the douche bag I mentioned to you in PM Mark,  it was a good Sunday.

Well nothing exciting to report from the sample buckets,  few little fly specs.

Here is the burn area I was referring to.   Complete with a gas line that was used to melt that "stuff" that nobody can identify haha.
