Thanks Met!  ;D

Just downloaded it, but will probably be a day or two before I have a chance to look at it.

Looks really interesting, thanks.
I have been reading so much information like this, maybe one day it will sink in and makes sense.

WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I just got back on line due to a Koobface infection hidden with that book !

I had to have a Microsoft tech. remove it; 1 1/2 hours, Go to Google to find out what a Koobface is be fore

you open that site. If you screen show's a page that your computer has X number of things wrong, then it

most likely has it in it. My advice is do not open that site. It took the tech. 1 1/2 hours to get it all out.

Hmm...interesting. I've got Norton and nothing came up. PC seems to be quite happy. That said, I had a chance to look at the book a little, and it's NOT for me!! On page 2 it states, "Written for advanced undergraduate and graduate students with a basic background in the geosciences..."

After doing a bit more checking around, I found some other geology books available from google. They're not as new, but still lots of good, valuable info - and they appear to be a bit easier to understand - although I have only glanced at them so far!

Geology - by James Geikie (This version is illustrated - the only downloadable source for this book that I have found that included illustrations.)
Earth Sculpture - The Origin of Land-Forms - by Geikie, 1898
Structural and Field Geology - by Geikie, 1920 (This book is geared towards students)
Mineralogy - An Introduction to the Study of Minerals and Crystals - by Kraus & Hunt, 1920

Am very much looking forward to reading these. It appears that they cover a VERY wide range of geology that would come in handy for the serious-minded prospector/miner.

I'll add the direct google links for these eBooks, although I don't know how long they'll be valid. To download, mouse over the red box near upper left corner that says, EBOOK - FREE and then choose the type of download you prefer. If you want .pdf, click on the letters PDF - NOT the part after, which says, "read eReader instructions".

Just did a web search for Koobface and this is part of one of the results:

Koobface is network worm that attacks Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux platforms.[1][2][3] This worm originally targeted users of the networking websites like Facebook, Skype, Yahoo Messenger, and email websites such as GMail, Yahoo Mail, and AOL Mail. It also targets other networking websites, such as MySpace, Twitter,[4] and it can infect other devices on the same local network.[5] This infection allows an attacker to access users' personal information such as banking information, passwords, or personal identity (IP address). It is considered a security risk and should be removed from the network.[6] (from wikipedia.com)

How certain are you that the virus came from the book? I ask that because I've got my PC locked down so tight that I can't even access Cnet.com (download.com or Softonic.com, as well as a multitude of other sites.  Everything downloaded and every web page I go to is scanned in real time. Wish I could know the security is as good as I hope it is, but I know it's better than most.

Anymore I'm not sure of anything.  I downloaded the book and when I opened the pdf

it seemed to be ok, then all the desktop icon's blinked, one by one very fast, one time

only; then several ad's came  up, then a large box with a message that that it was a

computer cleaning / scanning / anti blab, blab, etc,  I have Microsoft and other programs

to do that sort of thing to protect my computer so I clicked the red x to close it out but

could not get it to close, then several messages came up, Ad type, for different things

car's, phones, several others I can't recall for what, just a bunch of crap. Could not stop

it, then a full size screen message from Microsoft, warning me not to shut the computer

down that it had detected a serous problem and for me to call one of several help lines

and talk to a service tech.  Tech told me about the Koobface and spent 1 1/2 hours going

through my computer repairing the damage. None of the anti this and that programs

detected anything until I did that download.

Geez, reminds me of a dream I had last week!  lol!!!@* lol!!!@* lol!!!@*......  [&whistle#]

Not even a month after I signed on with GPEX, but had already saved TONS of posts and info from the site, the laptop I was using decided to do an unauthorized Full System Restore. Took everything back so far that I couldn't even prove that MS Word came on the machine! Lots of books, TONS of maps, ....all gone. So this time I'm being "slightly" more careful. Still, I don't trust computers anymore. Not PC's, laptops, or even the onboard computers in vehicles!

(Staying off-topic for a minute...) I like Norton, but it "used to" let you know what it was doing at all times. Now, everything is just automatic. Like so many people in society, everything is being done for them - leaves them with time to dwell on less-nice things in life, like parties, sex, booze, etc.  ;)  I'll take an old Dodge Powerwagon ANY day over a brand new pickup of any brand!!

XT, if you want to try this book again but are afraid, go to your public library with a clean, blank flash drive. Download the book, then check it out using their computers! Save it to their HDD initially (if they allow you to), open it, check it, then transfer it to the flash drive, take it home, and destroy your PC again!  lol!!!@* lol!!!@* lol!!!@* Just kidding. ...Just use the wife's computer and blame anything on her.  :P Got kids? Even better! Can get the garage cleaned out at the same time, if you play your cards right!  <-thinking->

I downloaded the book then printed it, then cleaned it out ( used up a lot of space and after printing there was no need

for it to be in my computer ). I ask the tech. about doing it before I did, no problem. Just do not understand why

people just have to mess with someone else !
