Black Massive Granular Spinel
« on: January 18, 2016, 07:07:51 PM »
This is what I'm calling this rock for now, till I get a positive identity at a future date $$$ This be hard stuff to get a decent pic with, the light reflection always comprising the pic's. :( Being black makes taking good images hard ^#!  Color:Iron Black -Luster: Vitreous-Fracture:Conchoidal- Hardness:7-8 I wish I could take pictures with the rock scope(4500X) I have the use of,courtesy of my prospecting partner. Its the neatest rock I have ever laid eye's on!

These pics only show abit of this rocks real beauty.

Looks a lot like obsidian but the hardness makes spinel more likely. It should have jewel value. Good luck.

One thing for sure,Obsidian it's not. As far as gem quality it depends I guess,on whether or not I can get some with big enough granules, I have a few chunks.  Hoping more for "Galaxite" for specimen rock, but wouldn't turn down gem stone.lol!!!@*

These 2 pic's show some finer granular

This below most likely gem quality, much bigger.

This last pic is of a red type crystal (maybe Rodingite?)sometimes I'm finding in the
country rock that is also carrying Galaxite?
