Ernie Wells article - Popular Mining Mag
« on: October 23, 2015, 05:41:48 PM »
I said I would either confirm or dis-confirm the date of the article.
Received the ordered issue of Popular Mining in today's mail.
Here is the summary:

The article written by Ernie Wells that was reprinted in Volume 1 of the Popular Mining Encyclopedia on
page 107 entitled "Catch Your Fine Gold" was originally printed in Popular Mining issue #10 dated
September/October 1985 on page 17 under the column heading titled "Idea Corner". The original article
carries the same title, "Catch Your Fine Gold".

Begs the Question.
Does anyone have DIY Plans for a Magnetic sluice to recover fine gold :)
J-Bear
Hi.My experience with magnets and fine gold is the magnets collect your magnitite and all your fine gold at once.At the end of the day you got a big mess too try and separate. You can cook it bone dry and try to remove the black with a magnet. You will get most but still loose gold.I have heard of folks using a magnet on the bottom of a metal pan and trying to shake the gold out.you will get some but again loose very fine gold too the sand.Best results so far is the gold hog washer matt, a shaker type table or a Blue bowl.Or you can get very good with a pan and save your fine gold.My two bits magnets Suck.Luck Mcbain.

Mark,

Round up some concentrates with lots of black sands in them for my drive through visit in a few days.  Your right - nothing beats a Gold Hog, or a Gold Cube, but there can be some grand things done with a little Neo magnet.
