What can be in my rock that i found??
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:20:53 PM »
I was at a river today with my Metal detector (Garrett Ace 150)
Located a rock in the river (approx 2' long, 1' wide) that the detector reconized as Iron all over.
As i passed  my detector back and forth over the rock it dected several things such as Iron, Nickel, Gold 7 silver.
It was getting dark, the rock was covered with black river scum but in places appeared to be yellow.
It was too heavy to carry out so i left it in a place where i could remember where it was.

Is it possible that there is gold in this rock? What elese could it be? or is my detector just picking up a load of garbage?

I don't know much about good working medal detectors. Alls I have ever had was second hand junk. Dropped, dunked, hew knows. Making every rock and hole a hot spot. Best coin I ever found, was when medal detecting. Just looked down and there it was. A  silver dollar. A nice and clean 1922 mint. but I did not use the detector. Only my eyes. Close, but no cigar for that one.
As far as the question of hot rocks. From what I know, is that most of the really large placer nuggets have a certain amount of stone or quarts in them. The pictures I have seen of ones coming out of tailing piles look more like rocks. With just small seems of gold running thru some of them.

So what gives? Anything in the rock...
