Found this yesterday digging under an Old uprooted Tamarack, lots of good size river rock and when it was wet at 1st I thought it was Quartz? More like a conglomerate imbedded with coal. Tiny Au specs in Black areas. Poser for me! Anyone know this type of Rock?

I have a buddy that finds gold on the top of coal seams exposed in river or creek banks. I've been wanting to check this out myself in a few locations.

Sorry, not getting the correlation here? Just thought some of the Rockhounds could lay a name to this type of Rock. I'm quite sure the Black areas are imbedded Coal? <-thinking->

AU Tiger,I thought it lookerd like quartz vein material or maybe quartz rich schist type stuff. A better picture on a freshly broken face would help.

Aumbre, Cracked the top 1/3 off, 3 or 4 flakes fell out, don't know what I lost on the Garage floor?? Only used hammer and chisel, Rock looks same after splitting, but no Coal!

Sorry, really can't see much from the photos (glare?) so same old guesses. Is the dark material earthy? or is some the chunky stuff glassy or?

3 or flakes of mica or gold?

Would the pic not enlarge for you? The Black is crunchy but pickable. Au is typical Alberta Fine, but flat! Was hoping you would have a better view of the bigger portion of the Rock, It really looked out of place amongst the larger round river rock, was hoping it contained some Quartz? Thanks
