Granite Worshop
« on: March 05, 2014, 08:28:47 PM »
I'm starting a new job where they cut, grind and polish granite.  Would it be worth it to collect dust from the shop to pan for gold? Perhaps just a good clean out of the cracks in the floor now and then.  Or even a daily pan would nice.

Think it would be worth the effort?

I didn't mean would it be profitable, just to practice panning.

Although, looking at that dust today, it's just too fine to pan.  I don't even think gold would settle to the bottom when it's that finely ground.

defiantly and if yo have no access to real paydirt.. same with clay , some without ..  get a bucket and good sized wash basin  .. Tip, don't do this in kitchen sink .. or wash rock samples in dishwasher .. I have a friend that did this .. results were not good ,wife certainly not impressed ....

take some -1/2" river bank  B horizon , not soil not broken bedrock ,throw in a dozen or so pellets , count them pieces of lead shot or split shot  # 4 is fine .. mix the bucket up ... that's the pay pile .. now pan it all  in basin .. with water .. at the end the goal is to have the same number of pellets .. or repan your panned . try different pans  . i still use a plain steel one ..
