They were already Here...
« on: November 30, 2013, 08:24:22 PM »
Hello gem masters -   AU has been an obsession for me for some time.  Although I enjoy panning and prospecting for Gold- I would like to expand my exploration to Gem stones.   After mining the web on MTO- most of Southern BC has at one time or another been claimed up (mineral).  In my area some of these historic claims have been for gem stones= as well as some current claims.  What in your opinions would be a good starting point for a newbie gem hunter?  I am checking to see if there is a local gem/ rock hounding club in my area.

Have any of you had luck asking to dig on any gem sites or talk with previous owners?

THanx

Have you chatted with bluecorundum. The man is a walking dictionary. He can explain everything from adularescence to zoning.
Cheers - BJ.

I would agree with BJ Blu is the man to talk to.  He has been doing it for over twenty five years.

There was a book put out for each province by the federal government that described with highway weigh points, what you can find and where,  by Ann Sabina.  It is a pretty good resource.  It also talks about gold.

I think there was also one for southern BC too.  I used to have them all, but over time lent them out and have none.  I found them to be an excellent resource and probably should consider buying replacements.
