Sluice dam
« on: August 02, 2013, 02:56:48 PM »
Several times I've ran into low water not enough to run the sluice even when raking up stone wings.  I've now cut several plastic storage box lids in half lengthwise (they fit in the bottom of my wagon).  Then I have come up with some nice stakes to drive into the creek bottom to hold up the lids.  (stakes came from those folding canvas chairs that always end up tearing apart, they're perfect)
The lids hold back water a lot better than the rocks and several can divert a lot of water quickly.
I also use the lids ahead of holes I dig into the creek to divert water enough so the creek doesn't wash sand and gravel back into my hole.

Hey great idea. Never even thought about that. The stream I work in has very intermittent water flow in a dry spell, light weight easy to find a spot in the box of my quad. Thanks for the tip ;D
