3M (Mexican Miners Moss)
« on: October 06, 2012, 08:58:28 PM »
So, my parents just got back from Mexico, and they brought me something better than a shitty old t-shirt.  I've been telling them my search for material to put in the bottom of my sluice, so when they saw the door mats at the resort they were at, they started checking around.  Went to some hardware store and found this stuff.  Merry Chrismas ( or Feliz Navidad !)

14" x 24" each, 2 mats.

I hope that works out for you.  The picture looks like some that I bought once in the States.  The "spagetti" is at least 50% thinker than real Miners Moss and tends to be sort of stuck together.  It was a real bear to clean out.

From what i saw on your pics very close to what i run and have for years. Yes its harder to clean but wow the results with it on, i found unbeatable. So i stuck with it, it traps powder beautifuly but a bugger to clean. At the end each year put on cardboard and beat the back with a paddle to clean completly. I found gold loves it so i keep using it. Had same matting for 20 years now still perfect shape Ray

Thanks guys!  I just cut up some into 8inch widths, getting ready to hit the Fraser on my claim in Boston Bar.  In the process of  getting materials together for building an 8inch wide Long Tom - style sluice, perhaps 8 to 10 feet long in 2 sections.  Should catch the fine stuff pretty good.  I'll keep ya posted on how this "MMM" works!

if ya find it hard to clean, after ya do your last run, replace with clean mat and hang the loaded one to dry... should just fall outta there with ease once dry

You can actually buy it from quite a few places.
Walmart sells an unbacked version for use in the shower.
And the girlfriend had picked up a backed version from bed bath and beyond.
Used as a door mat.
Sadly.  She won't let me cut it up for the bottom of my sluice
